At least four T-1s sailed on the Great Lakes. The Spindletop, built 1943 at Perryville, Maryland, by the Lancaster Iron Works, ended her days as the cement carrier Badger State, broken up at Manitowoc in 1988. She also traded on the lakes for Lake Tankers as Lake Charles before. The Sequatchie, laid down as Royston at Galveston in 1944 by Todd-Galveston Dry Dock Corp., operated as Otco Bayway on the lakes for many years, and became a breakwater at Shediac, New Brunswick, in 1981 as Metro Landry No. 1 for the Shediac Bay Marina. The story of the Seekonk, a T1-M-A2 like the Otco Bayway, is fairly well known (the T1-M-A2s were slightly smaller than the T1-M-A1s). Built 1944 by East Coast Shipyards, Inc., at Bayonne, New Jersey, it exploded and caught fire 7 June 1963 at Charlottetown, P. E. I., with no lives lost, operating for Irving at the time. The hulk was broken up at Buctouche, New Brunswick.
The T1-M-BT1 tanker Petaluma, as the Panamanian Transpet, operated as far west as Montreal under charter to British American Oil beginning in 1947, but was too large to enter the St. Lawrence canals having been lengthened to over 300 feet in 1947. It was lost to explosion on the Gulf of St. Lawrence on 30 October 1951 taking two lives. However, its sister, the Transpan, originally Quiinebaug and also lengthened in 1947, did come to the lakes, serving as Hall's River Transport for many years. It was broken up at Guayaquil, Equador, in 1998-99, as Don Ernesto.

Looks like it could capsize quite easy. Not very thought out in my opinion.

WWII T1-M-A1 Tankers
These were 213.5' x 37' x 14.5' Tankers. Launched on the Lakes. Most went under the Lend-Lease Program to the British Ministry of War Transport. I have seen many photos of them (Just their Fore-bodies). What did the entire ship look like? Since all the photos I've seen of them shows them unfinished in Lakes shipyards, I wonder if their Aft superstructures were added on the Coast?
