About five years after WWII, the Navy organized the well known "Corn Belt Fleet". This fleet of ships was to become the Great Lakes Reserve Destroyer Division, a familiar site to many in the Great Lakes area They were stationed at various ports on the lake's, for example: the U.S.S. ANHERST (PCER 853) which I served on for a short time was stationed in Detroit. Around 1970 the Naval Dept. decided to end the Corn Belt Fleet and the vessels left the lakes. For more info you may go on line and enter Warship International No. 4 of Dec. 31, 1970 or The End of THE CORN BELT FLEET copyrighted any published in 1972. For further info e-mail fishtug@ezdsl.net. Both of the books mentioned are now 'out of print' by may still be brought up by going to the (20 books mentioned.

Great Lakes Corn Belt Fleet

I've recently picked up on a scrambled message on my telephone asking 'something' to do with the former Great Lakes Corn Belt Fleet. The message was from a telephone code of 248 and also from a Larry Hapcock (I believe the message said). I think the call was from somewhere in the Detroit area. When I tried calling back I didn't get threw to the number they left. So "if" you, Larry Hapcock is the one that called and 'picks up this message, can you please give me an e-mail back to fishtug@ezdsl.net. Maybe I can then respond to you. TIA. Sorry I couldn't respond but the message was scrambled. Sorry about it.L
