Re: SJC
The Cort arrived in Milwaukee early this morning, January 20th for lay up. With their arrival, the Winter Lay Up fleet in Milwaukee has the Cort, Block and the tug G.L. Ostrander and barge Integrity. The Wilfred Sykes will also join those three and eventually lay up in Milwaukee this winter then.

Re: SJC
The Cort departed from Burns Harbor today, January 18 after delivering their last load of the season. They then anchored off near Chicago and they are still there as I type this now at 8:15 p.m. on January 18. Once they depart from the Chicago Anchorage, they will head to Milwaukee for Lay Up next.

Re: SJC
With the Cort needing help and assistance from the USCG Biscayne Bay, it looks and sounds like the ice is starting to form and get pretty thick and bad in the St. Marys River then? Wonder just how much ice is up above the Soo Locks in Lake Superior especially places like Whitefish Bay along with the Ports of Duluth—Superior, Marquette, Thunder Bay, Two Harbors and Silver Bay? With the cold weather we’ve been having lately, I’m sure there’s been delays in loading cargoes from all of the ports I mentioned. With the Soo scheduled to shut down on January 15, I wonder depending on the ice and weather conditions IF some ships may have to cancel their trips and orders and head into Winter Lay Up sooner than they had planned? The next couple of weeks should be challenging and interesting that’s for sure and certain! For sure the Coast Guards both the U.S. & Canadians will definitely be busing trying to make sure things are clear of any ice jams anywhere then.

The Stewart J Cort is still at anchor just North of Drummond Island. Most everyone else is moving again after the recent winds blew through the lakes. Are ice conditions on the St Mary’s river getting bad? No nighttime transits? The Purvis tugs followed the Katmai Bay upbound this morning. Seems like a 105’ wide path would have been nice to follow. Thanks in advance for any insight.
