MarineTraffic Being Annoying

The cumbersome login just for public access seems to only be an issue on MarineTraffic's Android app. Since I don't have an iPhone, I have no idea if the login for free access is required on those phones.

I’ve used the free version of Marine Traffic for years and NEVER had to deal with any types of creating user accounts or having to do any types of log in stuff either. Fortunately for me though the free version on their website has always worked for me. However, I do share at times though your frustrations with Marine Traffic. Years ago, they’ve made changes and not for the better I may add to their free version website. They used to keep any and all information for well over 24 hours or so. Definitely NOT that way anymore as they’ve gotten much worse on holding the information! Now at times, it’s not even a full 24 hours on the free version of their website. I recall they used to keep information on former names of ships and when they were renamed or any changes to a ship such as reflag etc. but not that way now. They want you to sign up, create an account and then pay 💰 out of your pockets and pocketbooks to view that type of information. They must think then that money grows on trees and that we’re all made of money or something. Geez, I shell out more than my share of money every year for various memberships to Marine Historical Societies that I belong to, two at the moment. Then like many of us, I buy and purchase Roger’s great & awesome Know Your Ships books every year. IF I gave a penny in my name to Marine Traffic then I’d be lucky to have an extra spending money IMO at least anyway. Thank Goodness 🙏 we have Boatnerd and the great and many contributors and hard working volunteers that help to keep this website going for all of us and what it is today. Oh and BTW, memberships to various Marine Societies along with organizations are definitely NOT cheap with prices going up and increasing like everything else, then you have the various raffle drawings as well which aren’t cheap to buy and purchase tickets too. Just my two cents and opinions only on these subjects and topics and nothing further then!

Anyone else having to deal with a login (new user account) at MarineTraffic that they insist on users activating, even when you are using the general public (no cost) version. Is there anything better than MarineTraffic, because they are so damned annoying with their login for a free public account they now demand you have? Why do I even need to setup a free public users account in the first place?
