Any new news re: Kaye E. Barker? I know she's been repainted and was scheduled for an engine replacement. Everytime I check AIS she's still moored at Sturgeon Bay. Does any one know if she's due to come out soon?

Kaye Barker headed out into Green Bay this morning (8/7/12) for her sea trials, she had two tugs along side her until about 8:15 am she was about four miles north of Sturgeon Bay when the tugs headed back to port, and she started picking up speed. She looks good.

It appears the yard crew is working on the stern on the Am. Spirit, the bow is down in ballast and the stern is up and work barges are placed around the wheels.
The Astubula is being painted in her nwe colors. Also the State of Michigan is tied up on the east city dock by the Oregon St, bridge.

The American Spirit arrived at Bay Ship this morning and is berthed out the face.

The kaye barker was removed from the graving dock on saturday and was tied on berth 7. The Ex-Mary Turner is suppose to go back into the dock this week.

Are there any pictures at all showing the job from the start to the present situation on the Kaye? It sure would be worth seeing.

Painting not started yet. I doubt that it will until the Barker comes out of the graving dock and the Turner goes in. The new boom has not been installed yet, either.

Anyone have any photos, updates or information on the progress of the tug/barge Beverly Anderson and Mary Turner? Have they done any painting on them yet and if not, then when will she get painted in the Lower Lakes colors and when will she get renamed?

Kaye Barker Info:

The "new" diesel engines and gearing that were installed in the Kaye Barker, were orginally intended to be installed in the John Sherwin but with the economy collapse in 2008 that project was put on hold and these engines have been stored in Green Bay since then. These engines will not meet the new EPA regulations so a temp. time extension waiver was required and the Kaye Barker was selected to receive these engines.

The reason that a portion (lower 26ft) of the stern had to be removed and reworked/replaced is the Barker was orginally built with a Contrapropeller shaped Stern. Without rebuilding the stern the Kaye Barker would have hard time running in reverse with the engine/gearing combination that was already purchased and may have developed vibration problems.

This week in Sturgeon Bay, the 1000' Walter McCarty arrived for minor repairs and left midweek and the cement barge Conquest and tug Prentiss Brown are tied on berth 3.
The Kaye Barker is still in the graving dock and the paint job is almost completed.

The yard workers cut part of the stearn off the Barker and is standing upright under the gantry crane. The stearn that was cut off off the propeller hub and rudder post. I was told the stearn was already put back in place.

Does anyone know if this activity was planned as part of her re-fit or was it needed because of problems discovered during the work? Also, what is her anticipated sailing date? John

Not painted yet.

Barker was moved Saturday afternoon around 3:30 so a 50 foot section of her stern can be replaced so they can fix an alignment problem with the new engines, and the rest of the drive line.

Has the Mary Turner been renamed or painted gray yet and can someone please post some photos of her if she's been painted in Lower Lakes gray colors? Thanks

The Kaye Barker is in the graving dock and the ex-Mary Turner is on berth 9. Also the McKee Sons left the yard.
