Just to add, the BGSU shots of the Menihek and Carol Lake are both 1961.

Thanks Mike, that sounds right. I've got a slide of the Menihek Lake with the Hanna Star from 1960, and I know the Carol Lake came out with the star in 1960 as well, most other shots I've seen were either '59 or '60.

I would say around 1961. At that time, Hanna was having union difficulties with the MEBA. At least two of their vessels were tied up for a period of time by union picketers: the Joe Thompson, loaded with coal in Superior and the E. T. Weir at the shipyard in Toledo. The Hanna star on the Canadian boats was attracting unwanted attention. I remember seeing the Menihek Lake in 1959 in the Welland with the orginal star on her stack. Mike

Carryore Stack Change

Unread post by Halco »

When did Carryore change stack colours from the original Hanna Mining design to the green maple leaf design, present on both the Nipigon and Carryore fleets?
Thanks
