Sturgeon Bay Activity

I was advised earlier this month that the graving dock at Bay Shipbuilding is pretty much solidly booked until the beginning of April of next year. The Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment and the Sturgeon Bay ABS office anticipate being extremely busy the entire winter with all of the work on the ships.

I am trying to determine which way it will come into Bayship. If it goes to berth 15 it can come and via the ship canal and back in pretty much on it's own. If it's going to the graving dock it would likely go around Death's door and come in via the Bay of Green Bay. I see from my notes it was last there in 2005 so it looks like it's due for a 5 year. At any rate it's been delayed enroute so it probably won't get there Sunday when I'll be there.

It probably depends on the Yard's schedule - where they will have room and when.

It would make the most sense to install the engine before the 5 year inspection.

I am assuming the graving dock is currently empty? Assuming the Gott arrives this weekend, any idea if it goes in the graving dock for a 5 year and then over by berth 15 or wherever for the new engines? Or will it just get berthed and not go into the graving dock this year?

The Tug Michigan and barge great lakes arrived at Bay Ship on Wed. morning and is tied up on berth 3. The Lake Guardian is out of the floating dock and is on berth 8. Also there is a yellow and black colored tug tied behind the Michigan, can't see the name on it and finally the Alpena left the yard.
