Churchill is alot closer to the overseas market, is a deep sea port, is the terminus for prairie commodities. Moosonee is on the river, has (had) some barge traffic

Been to Moosonee twice by rail several years ago and don't remember any large docks or shipping. They do some barge shipping there.
Took a small boat over the river to Moose Factory where Hudson Bay trading began. Boat broke down and we came back in a "freighter" canoe run by the Cree.
Most of the population is Cree Indian and was told that their main income was from tourism.
No way in by road, just train and air.

I know it's not on the Great Lakes or the St. Lawerence Seaway. However, I would like to know what is actually shipped from there, why it lost out to Churchill MB as it's closer to major city centres than its Manitoba counterpart?

Thanks in advance,

M.
