I remember seeing this while in school back many years ago. Now if only someone would post the old Soo Locks movie made by the US Army Corps of Engineers during the same timeframe. I remember it portraying a trip on the Arthur M. Anderson or one of the AAA class steamers.

I saw this 20+ years ago on an old vhs tape, but I see its online now. 30 minute film of the construction of the Houghton Hancock lift bridge, circa 1960. First 4 minutes and 15 seconds show some ship passages, including 5 ships tied up at what I think is Lily Pond, and the South American coming into Houghton.

Starting about 26 minutes in are shots of Interlake's Jay C. Morse, the almost new Ranger III and a passenger train crossing the bridge.

Bridge construction shows the wonderful working conditions in a pressurized caisson 75 feet below water level, and riveting up bridge beams.

And I'm pretty certain that orange color was red lead primer. The bridge has been repainted multiple times since then so hopefully it was all properly removed.
