When I worked on the Anderson a few years ago, one of our projects was stripping off the red paint and applying the gray on those decks, mostly to help keep the decks a little cooler.

I was on the Clarke from 1971-79 and the aft decks were "red deck". I found a photo of the Clarke when part of the Blough cargo was being off-loaded into her and at that time the stack deck was grey and the boat deck was still "red deck". Must be a this year thing with the change.

I found it interesting that the after end decks are now pained grey. As the 4-8 Deckwatch (1971) I hosed down those "red deck" painted decks every morning that we were in "open waters". Ahhh, the good old days. WoW I'm getting old. LOL
