Complete WAG - might want to check the 1900 census records for towns in MI where carferries ran. (E.g., Ludington, Frankfort, etc.) Seems like at least a possibility that he had a career on railroad carferries before going to the Marquette & Bessemer #2 if he spent the last years of his career there. Carferries were a different sort of work from lakers.

I am looking at where they came from, how many brothers, sisters they had, that kind of thing. If your looking at writing a book you want to give a background to the crew not just a name.

I am not trying to be smart but the article says he made Conneaut his home for the 4 yrs he was on the ferry. I am taking it you checked Conneaut, Ohio.

Patrick Hughes seaman Marquette & Bessemer 2

Unread post by MattJ »

I am doing research on the crew members that were on the Marquette & Bessemer No2. I have hit a road block on Patrick Hughes who was a seaman onboard the No2 for all of her 4 years. I have included what little was written in the Erie Pa newspaper from the time. I am hoping someone in the Boatnerd community may have knowledge where in Michigan Pat called home or ideas where to look that I may not have thought of.Been on Newspapers.com, genealogybank.com and only came up with what I have attached. Thanks in advance for any help! Matt Jones
