The Barker unloaded at the Motor City Materials dock. Most of Detroit’s inbound salt shipments go to the two Motor City docks on the Rouge. The Morton dock has only been used to ship outbound salt since 2021.

It all has to do with contracts, customers, and pricing. Additionally, the Detroit mine produces far less than other mines in the region such as Goderich and Cleveland.

In the last couple of years, Cleveland has also received salt deliveries from Goderich despite its own salt mine.

I was questioning that also. I saw the Mark Barker unloaded at what appeared to Morton in Detroit then left empty for Cargill in Cleveland the other day.

Why does Detroit receive salt deliveries when there is a salt mine close to the docks?
