The US Army Corps of Engineers Waterway Commerce Statistics Center tracks commercial commerce in public ports and has data online for 2002 through 2023. It looks like grain activity ended in Huron in 2009, iron ore activity in 2011, and stone traffic was running between 300,000 and 600,000 tons per year from 2002 to 2017. There was no commercial traffic reported at all in 2018, 45000 tons of stone in 2019, 6000 tons of stone in 2020 and nothing at all in 2020-2023.

Thanks for the information, amazing how much shipping activity has changed at Huron as I believe it was quite busy at one time especially with the Hanna Mining ships and various grain ships from the Canadian fleet up through the early 1980s.

Back in the late 1980s and the early 1990s I often drove along US Route 6 past Huron, Ohio while traveling between the Detroit Area and Lorain / Avon Lake, Ohio and at times see ships in the ore dock / grain elevator slip at Huron Ohio. I recall once seeing a Misener laker laid up for the winter at the grain elevator at Huron during this period, this being either the John A. France or J. N. McWatters if my memory serves me right. I would often make an effort to stop and see any vessels that would happen to be there at the time of my passing by. Now some 35 years later, I was wondering what type of shipping activity, if any, still takes place at Huron? The last time I went through there several years ago, it appeared that the grain elevator was gone.
