Soo Locks Photo Opportunities

Unread post by Guest »

Although having taken several hundred photographs of ships transiting the locks during the 1990s and into the early 2000s, I haven't been up to the Soo Locks in the past 20 or so years. I know that over the past 20 years there have been several changes insofar as the viewing (and thus also photographing) opportunities with alterations to the various elevated platforms that sit adjacent to the MacArthur Lock. Over the past several years, it seems that there has been less and less photographs being posted of ships passing through the locks with more being posted from Mission Point and other vantage points on the St. Marys River. I was wondering what is the current arrangement at the Soo Locks in regard to good photograph opportunities? I seem to recall reading reports that the observation booths being pretty much glassed off now, and if my memory is correct that some were consolidated or removed. Just wondering as I'm in the process of planning a visit up there next spring and would like to know what I can expect.
