Indeed lots of ships have unofficial nicknames. Some are silly, some are overly glamorous, some are vulgar, some are an expression of contempt and some are even cringeworthy. But it's all well intentioned and good and I encourage everyone to come up with their own nicknames. I myself see nothing wrong with lahey's personal choice of nickname even though it might be a little weak, he's just enthusiastic and I encourage him to carry on.

Lakercap I agree I had 47 years before I retired,I also do not agree with the term "Piney" as well as other slang and short forms used by the Enthusists, I do not know what they are talking about eg ELR, etc.please for the uninformed use proper names and please reframe from Piney slang

What's this with the "Piney" as I have never heard of the boat referred t as that before.
The ex "Paterson" crew would cringe.

I just hope that CSL decides to bring her out in 2016 as since they painted in her red, "I have believe it or not never seen her while she was downbound only up in the red color!" This year though I am finished with boatwatching so won't be able to make it up to the Port Huron area until next year. So bottom line, I hope that the Piney will be out in 2016 and I see her more downbound than up!

Perhaps Piney will get her chance to partake this year after all. Fingers crossed.

Could they possibly be coming out for the Fall Grain Rush? Lots of traffic up in Thunder Bay lately especially Salties! Thunder Bay is having one if not the best Grain Shipping Season and busiest in a long time at least for them anyway.
